Private equity specialist Cayton James is set to join
A&O Shearman has bolstered its corporate and M&A bench in Sydney, appointing private equity specialist Clayton James as a partner.
James brings extensive experience advising on private equity and venture capital transactions, as well as public and private M&A, with a track record spanning energy transition, technology, business and professional services, transport and defence.
He recently advised:
CIMIC on the $500 million sale of UGL Transport to Sojitz, plus
Pacific Equity Partners’ $1 billion bid for lifestyle communities operator Serenitas
He joins from HSF Kramer, where he is a partner and senior member of the Sydney private equity team. James started at HSF in 2006.

Australia co-managing partner Jason Denisenko said the hire reflects rising demand for sophisticated domestic and cross-border deal advice.
“Clayton’s appointment will enhance our ability to deliver integrated solutions for sponsors and corporates in Australia, leveraging our market-leading global platform,” he said.
