The Brief:
Ashurst hires senior tax partner Nathan Deveson from MinterEllison.
The move follows Costa Koutsis’ departure from Ashurst to Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
Ashurst has secured Nathan Deveson, one of Australia’s leading state tax experts, as a senior partner in its Sydney tax team.
Deveson joins from MinterEllison, where he spent over two decades and served as Sydney Office Managing Partner.
With 23 years’ experience advising on stamp duty, land tax and complex real estate transactions, Deveson is recognised for his structuring expertise across M&A, financial services, mining and resources.
Ashurst’s Lea Constantine said the hire “marks a significant milestone” for the global tax practice. “His expertise will further strengthen our tax offering and create new opportunities, particularly in the real estate and infrastructure sectors.”
Deveson said he was energised to join Ashurst, citing “the firm’s reputation for excellence, its collaborative culture, and its truly global platform.”
The move comes just days after Ashurst’s global tax co-head Costa Koutsis departed to Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
Both hires underscore the fierce competition for senior tax talent among top-tier firms.
