The Brief:

  • Ashurst Perkins Coie is open for business in Houston, hiring partners Tom Tomlinson and Tamara McKinzie.

  • HSF Kramer is running a similar playbook, with Texas on its two-year radar.

Ashurst Perkins Coie has planted its flag in Houston, hiring partners Tom Tomlinson and Tamara McKinzie to launch its presence in the US energy capital.

It’s the firm’s first move into Houston, adding to its existing Texas offices in Dallas and Austin.

  • Tomlinson joins the Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources group with 30+ years’ experience repping sponsors, investors, developers and lenders. His deal sheet spans renewables, energy storage, oil and gas, and pipeline projects.

  • McKinzie joins the Real Estate group, bringing nearly 20 years’ experience advising investors, developers and utilities across energy, digital infrastructure, retail and healthcare.

Global Co-CEO Paul Jenkins said Houston is a natural next step. “Houston is one of the world’s most important hubs for energy and infrastructure, and Tom and Tamara are outstanding additions to our firm.”

And it’s a familiar playbook.

HSF Kramer also has Texas in its sights, with chair Rebecca Maslen-Stannage confirming the firm wants an office there within the next year or two.

Two top-tier firms. Two transatlantic mergers. Both chasing energy work, and both with Texas circled on the map.
