The Brief:

  • Ashurst Perkins Coie has hired Deloitte’s Lisa Dobbin and Josh Black as Risk Advisory partners in Sydney.

  • Dobbin will lead financial crime, while Black builds out data and technology.

Ashurst Perkins Coie has raided Deloitte for two financial crime specialists, appointing Lisa Dobbin and Josh Black as partners in its Risk Advisory consulting business in Sydney.

Dobbin will lead the firm’s financial crime offering, while Black expands its data and technology capability.

The hires land as regulatory enforcement ramps up and AML/CTF reforms in Australia and overseas put growing pressure on organisations.

Dobbin brings more than 24 years’ experience in financial crime consulting. She spent 16 years at Deloitte, including 12 as a partner, most recently leading its Australia and Asia Pacific Financial Crime practice.

Black built and led Deloitte’s Australian Financial Crime Data & AI team, after earlier roles in Singapore. He’s a go-to for transaction monitoring, regulatory reporting and large-scale KYC fixes, often across datasets running to billions of records.

Hilary Goodier, Global Chair of Ashurst Perkins Coie’s NewLaw & Consulting division, said:

“Working closely with the firm’s Financial Regulatory, Disputes and Corporate Transactions lawyers, they will strengthen our ability to support clients on complex financial crime challenges, including cross-border mandates for multinational clients, bringing commercial and technical perspectives alongside trusted legal advice.”

The duo are the latest of seven partners to join Risk Advisory’s Asia Pacific practice in the past year. The move follows the firm hiring KPMG partner Yu Zhai in Sydney in September.
