The Brief:

  • Ashurst hires energy expert Lixian Liang from Gilbert + Tobin in Sydney.

  • The move signals an industry focus on energy transition as clients chase decarbonisation and energy security.

Ashurst has joined the energy hiring rush, adding Lixian Liang as a partner in its Projects & Energy Transition team in Sydney.

Liang joins after a stint as partner at Gilbert + Tobin. Before G+T, Liang was a SA and Counsel at Ashurst. She covers the full lifecycle of energy projects with a focus on renewables, transmission and storage.

Liang brings deep experience across wind, solar, battery and hybrid projects in Australia and Asia, including a central role advising Acciona and Cobra on Australia’s first Renewable Energy Zone, a blueprint for subsequent transmission developments.

“Lixian’s expertise will be instrumental in supporting our clients as they navigate the dual imperatives of decarbonisation and energy security, both of which are central to Australia’s energy future,” said Dan Brown, co-practice head, projects and energy transition in APAC.

Ashurst’s hire follows similar moves made by other top firms — Clayton Utz recently nabbed energy and infra pro Alexander Danne and DLA Piper hired enviro and planning partner Noni Shannon.
