The Brief:

The hire launches a new dedicated Tax Controversy practice at the firm.
Gilbert + Tobin has snapped up tax controversy specialist Dioni Perera from EY, launching a dedicated Tax Controversy practice in the process.
Perera joins from EY, where she was a Tax Law Partner in Melbourne for over five years. Before that, she spent nearly 13 years at King & Wood Mallesons, starting in its taxation group specialising in tax audit and litigation work.
She brings two decades of experience advising ASX-listed companies, global multinationals and major private groups across mining, infrastructure, energy, renewables and consumer markets.
She's not arriving alone. Perera joins with a team of five: consultant Peter van den Broek, lawyers Alper Gokoglu, Alistair Thompson and William Li, and graduate Robyn Flynn.
Dioni brings specialised and strategic expertise to G+T that will help our domestic and international clients resolve complex matters in an increasingly dynamic tax landscape.
The hire is the latest in a string of disputes plays at G+T, following Daniel Moloney in Melbourne and Holly Sara in Sydney.
