The Brief:
Hamilton Locke nabs four K&L Gates partners, appointing its first Head of Tax.
Betsy-Ann Howe, Matthew Cridland and Annalie Mitchelson join the tax bench, while Samuel Brown bolsters real estate.
Hamilton Locke has raided K&L Gates for four partners, appointing Betsy-Ann Howe as the firm’s first-ever Head of Tax.
Howe is joined by fellow K&L Gates partners:
tax partners Matthew Cridland and Annalie Mitchelson, with the trio bringing a team of five lawyers with them.
real estate partner Samuel Brown, who also brings an additional team of five lawyers
Howe advises on corporate and international tax matters, and cross-jurisdictional tax disputes and controversy. She’s worked in private practice and in-house, including as Head of Tax at a listed financial services company.
Cridland is a heavyweight indirect tax specialist with more than 26 years’ experience advising on GST and state taxes across complex transactions and disputes.
Mitchelson brings over two decades’ experience advising corporate taxpayers, with a focus on tax litigation, dispute resolution and R&D tax disputes. She’s previously worked at the Australian Government Solicitor, where she litigated on behalf of the Commissioner of Taxation.
Brown specialises in real estate and infrastructure transactions, developments and investment funds, spanning industrial, data centres, office, life sciences, retail, living and mixed-use assets, plus wind, solar and BESS projects.
The hires follow Hamilton Locke’s move in May to poach K&L Gates’ former real estate and agribusiness partner Lisa Ward.
