The Brief:
Harvey buys New York AI startup Benchmark, its third acquisition of 2026.
The deal isn’t Harvey going beyond legal, it’s Harvey doubling down on asset management, an area already worth 50 clients.
Harvey has bought Benchmark, a New York decision infrastructure startup for asset management.
The deal
Benchmark helps investors capture institutional knowledge and turn it into an edge on new deals. It’s trusted by firms managing north of US$2tn in assets, and backed by investors Y Combinator and the Outsiders Fund.
CEO Winston Weinberg was quick to shut down any talk of Harvey expanding beyond legal. Instead, the acquisition is about improving legal work tied to asset management. Harvey already has 50 asset management firms on its books, using it for investment due diligence, data room analysis and deal document review.
Benchmark co-founders Alec Dunn and Connor Janson and their team are joining Harvey’s product and engineering organisation.
It’s Harvey’s third acquisition of 2026, landing straight after a record Q2 in which the company added more than US$100m in net-new ARR. Rival Legora has been on a similar buying spree, making four acquisitions in 2026.
What they said
Weinberg said:
“When we asked our asset management customers which tools they trusted, Benchmark came up in nearly every conversation. Benchmark is built on a conviction we share: a firm's edge is its institutional knowledge, and AI should help firms capture that knowledge and apply it. We're proud to welcome Benchmark to Harvey.”
Dunn and Janson said:
“We started Benchmark because a firm’s edge lives in the deals it has already seen, and too much of that knowledge stays trapped in folders and in people’s heads. We’ve helped some of the best investment firms in the world put that knowledge to work. Harvey is one of the best application layer companies in the AI space and we already have shared customers, so this is a natural fit.”
