The Brief:

  • HSF Kramer names Cleary’s Ilona Logvinova as its first Global Chief AI Officer.

  • The move cements HSF Kramer’s ambition to lead the pack in legal AI innovation.

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer has tapped Ilona Logvinova, Cleary’s director of practice innovation, to spearhead its global AI strategy.

She’s HSF Kramer’s first Global Chief AI Officer — a newly created role that underscores how fast Big Law is scaling its tech leadership ranks.

A former McKinsey Legal head of innovation and Mastercard senior counsel, Logvinova became a well-known name in legal tech after leading Cleary Gottlieb’s digital transformation push and overseeing Cleary’s acquisition of legal tech developer Springbok AI earlier this year — one of the few instances of a major firm buying a tech company outright.

The question is no longer whether AI will disrupt the legal sector, but how fast and how well we can harness it to deliver value. This means having the best people using the best technology underpinned by robust oversight.

Justin D’Agostino, HSF Kramer Global CEO

Logvinova said she’s excited to join a firm known for its excellence, ambition and innovation, adding that “legal innovation isn’t about asking ‘what can tech do?’ but rather, ‘what do our clients and people need today and tomorrow?’”

Based in New York, Logvinova will join the firm on 5 November, working across practice groups to embed AI into client work and internal operations.
