The Brief:

  • Jones Day has hired major projects and construction partner Clive Luck into its Perth office.

  • The move deepens the firm's Australian disputes bench following its recent Melbourne raid on Corrs.

Jones Day has bolstered its Perth disputes bench, snapping up major projects and construction specialist Clive Luck as a partner in its Global Disputes Practice.

He makes the jump from Clayton Utz, where he led the major projects and construction team and was head of the firm’s Africa group.

Luck brings more than 25 years' experience advising on procurement, construction and dispute resolution across resources, energy and energy transition projects in Australia, Africa and Asia.

His recent work includes:

  • Advising a leading independent power producer on energy transition solutions across multiple WA mining sites

  • Acting for one of the world's largest gold producers on a USD$500m gold mining project in West Africa

  • Representing major EPC contractors on an AU$80bn LNG project

His ability to navigate complex cross-border disputes in the resources, energy and infrastructure sectors and his geographic focus on Africa align perfectly with our commitment to serve our clients' international needs in these vital sectors, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Firm.

Global Disputes Practice leader Sion Richards

Luck holds leading credentials across domestic and international arbitration, with experience under UNCITRAL, LCIA, ICC, ACICA, AFSA, HKIAC and SIAC rules. He joins a global disputes group of more than 200 lawyers across 25-plus offices.

The hire follows Jones Day's recent Melbourne push, which brought litigation partners Matthew Critchley, Alicia Salvo and Brendon Clarke across from Corrs.
