The Brief:
Jones Day hires disputes partner Christine Tran from HSF Kramer.
Tran has deep expertise in both shareholder and product liability class actions.
Jones Day has tapped class actions defence specialist Christine Tran for its Sydney disputes team, recruiting her from Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer.
Tran made partner at HSF Kramer in 2020 and is billed as one of the few practitioners in Australia with trial experience in both shareholder and product liability class actions.
Tran’s work hit headlines in 2020 when she co-led the defence that secured Worley’s win in Crowley v Worley Limited – the first Australian shareholder class action won by a defendant.
Christine is one of Australia's foremost disputes lawyers, known for her exceptional judgment and deep experience defending class actions, product liability matters and other complex commercial disputes.
The move comes as Australia’s class actions market runs hot. There were a record 79 filings in the 12 months to 30 June 2025, up from 46 the year prior, according to King & Wood Mallesons’ annual review. Over $1.9 billion in settlements were approved — more than the last two years’ combined.
Her arrival at the US firm strengthens its class actions capability after Melbourne disputes partner Daniel Moloney departed in September for Gilbert + Tobin. She’ll join Jones Day’s global disputes group of about 200 lawyers across 25 offices.
