The Brief:
Three Corrs Chambers Westgarth litigation partners exit for Jones Day.
The move strengthens the US firm’s disputes and insolvency practice in Australia.
Corrs Chambers Westgarth is saying goodbye to three of its Melbourne litigation heavyweights, all set to join Jones Day:
Matthew Critchley: A 17-year Corrs veteran and former head of Melbourne commercial litigation has acted on some of the country’s biggest insolvencies, including Timbercorp, Allco Finance Group, and ABC Learning.
Alicia Salvo: Joined Corrs in 2020 from Allens, where she spent 12 years. She’s advised Qualitas on the restructure of its Caydon Property Group debt and Mitsui & Co (Aust) on recovery proceedings involving a steel mill in administration.
Brendon Clarke: Also joined Corrs in 2020, Clarke has represented major banks and corporates, including NAB, in ASIC’s civil penalty proceedings over transaction fee errors and unlicensed credit referrals.
A Corrs spokesperson confirmed the trio’s departure, commenting: “We wish Matt, Alicia and Brendon all the very best for this new opportunity and thank them for their contributions to the firm.”
For Jones Day, the hires mark another major step in building its Australian disputes bench, expanding a 30-partner local team within the 2,300-lawyer global giant.
