The Brief:
Legora raises US$550m at a US$8.8bn valuation, up 57% in seven months.
Sydney is now its biggest APAC hub, with 100+ regional staff planned by year-end.
The raise
Legora’s war chest just got bigger.
The Swedish legal AI startup has raised US$550m (A$784m) in a Series E led by Atreides Management, valuing it at US$8.8bn (A$12.5bn).
That’s a 57% jump on its US$5.6bn Series D valuation in March.
Fidelity, J.P. Morgan and Capital Group are among the new names on the cap table. Every major existing backer is also in, including Accel, Benchmark and Australian VC Airtree.
The opportunity in legal is enormous and we are still early. AI is changing the role of the lawyer, with more time for judgement and advice, and it is reshaping how law firms and in-house legal teams are organised and how their work gets done. We intend to lead that shift in the US and globally. We chose investors who share our long-term view and know what it takes to build a lasting company. They are the right partners for the years ahead.
And by long-term, he means decades.
Junestrand told Artificial Lawyer that they’re “building Legora to be around for decades” and that Legora is “still at the very start of what it can do”.
The raise mirrors Harvey’s US$550m round last month, which valued its US rival at US$15.5bn, nearly double Legora’s new number
The numbers
The growth curve is steep:
US$1m to US$100m ARR in under 18 months
the next US$100m ARR in under 6 months
now above US$200m ARR
In-house is the new growth engine. In-house teams made up 40%+ of new customers in Q3. A year ago, they were a small fraction of its customer base. The US is also now its biggest market by revenue, with more than half the AmLaw 50 on board.
Locally, it’s making moves too. Sydney is Legora’s biggest APAC office, growing to 60+ people in the past 12 months. Regional headcount is set to top 100 by the end of 2026.
Three years ago, Legora was a handful of people in a law firm’s meeting room in Stockholm. Now it’s 1,000+ staff and 140,000+ users across 2,400+ firms and in-house teams.
