The Brief:
Barry Nilsson raids DLA Piper for six insurance partners.
DLA calls the exits “mutual”, as both firms refocus on strategy.
Barry Nilsson has launched a major raid on DLA Piper, hiring six partners and their teams in a move that reshapes the insurance market.
That includes:
Cameron Maclean – directors & officers, PI, insurance litigation
Jock Campbell – PI, casualty, statutory prosecutions and inquiries
Carmen Elder – directors & officers, PI, inquiries, statutory prosecutions
James Berg – PI, public/products liability, casualty
James Morse – transaction liability, warranty & indemnity, insurance litigation
Sophie Devitt – PI, directors & officers, inquiries, regulatory
They’ll be based across Perth, Sydney and Brisbane, bringing several team members with them.
It’s a strategic lateral hire that will strengthen the firm’s national capability across warranties, indemnities, regulatory and insurance litigation work.
For DLA Piper, the departures are a strategic refocus.
In a statement, DLA said it was focusing its efforts on “complex, contentious and non-contentious transactional, regulatory and other corporate commercial advisory mandates.” DLA added that the decision was reached mutually.
