The Brief:

  • MinterEllison has hired leveraged finance specialists Victor Salman and Kieran McMonagle as Special Counsels in Sydney.

  • Both return to the firm from Gilbert + Tobin, bolstering the firm's growing Private Capital bench.

MinterEllison is wasting no time building out its Private Capital practice.

The Big Six firm snapped up leveraged finance specialists Victor Salman and Kieran McMonagle as Special Counsels in Sydney.

The pair join from Gilbert + Tobin's banking team, where they advised leading domestic and international private equity sponsors.

  • Salman brings particular depth in complex leveraged and acquisition financings. He started as a graduate at MinterEllison before stints at Latham & Watkins in London and G+T.

  • McMonagle advises borrowers and lenders across leveraged and acquisition finance, corporate financings, mezzanine debt and shareholder and intercompany loans.

The hires follow Lee Horan's arrival as Head of Private Capital earlier this month, after his 20-year stint at King & Wood Mallesons.

Salman and McMonagle will slot into the firm's Leveraged Finance team alongside Geoff Earl and Leigh De Jong, working across the broader Private Capital bench with Horan, Kimberley Low and Nick Kipriotis.

The moves signal MinterEllison's intent to capture a bigger slice of an increasingly complex private capital market.

Head of M&A Con Boulougouris said:

"Our refreshed Private Equity strategy is aligned with international developments we are seeing in New York and London, and is firmly grounded in the evolution of the broader private capital ecosystem. As Private Credit, Family Offices, Pension Funds and Sovereign Wealth Funds take on an increasingly central role in Private Equity deals, our long standing advisory relationships with these capital providers, and the continued strengthening of our Private Markets bench, set us apart in the market."
