The Brief:

  • Edward Muston SC and James Emmett SC join the bench

  • Justice Natalie Adams steps up to Judge of Appeal and Chief Judge of the Common Law Division

Two senior silks are heading to the Supreme Court of NSW, with Edward Muston SC and James Emmett SC officially appointed as judges.

  • Muston, who brings more than two decades at the Bar across commercial, insurance and public law, has also played a long-running role in legal education and regulatory work. He’ll be sworn in on 2 December.

  • Emmett, appointed for 4 December, practises across public and administrative law, commercial litigation, professional negligence and maritime law. He sits on the NSW Bar Council, the Australian National Maritime Museum Council, and lectures at the University of Sydney.

Also, Justice Natalie Adams will take on the dual roles of Judge of Appeal and Chief Judge of the Common Law Division in February, replacing Justice Ian Harrison, who becomes Acting Justice and Acting Judge of Appeal.
