NSW Bar appoints 23 new silks
Women make up nearly one in three of this year’s appointments
23 NSW barristers will now wear silk robes, with the NSW Bar Association president Dominic Toomey SC announcing the appointment of 23 new SCs to the bar.
The fresh senior counsels were drawn from across the state’s top chambers.
The breakdown
Of the 122 barristers who applied, 101 were men and 21 were women. 17% of male applicants and 29% of female applicants were successful.
There are now 404 NSW barristers holding silk, with women making up 16.3% of the total.
