Sparke Helmore has added Sophie Pennington as a partner in its Specialty Lines Insurance team.

Based in Melbourne, she joins with her team of two lawyers from HWL Ebsworth, where she spent nearly eight years as partner.

Pennington is the go-to medical negligence and malpractice specialist. She’s advised public and private hospitals, medical practitioners, and specialty healthcare providers on civil claims, coronial inquests, and disciplinary matters. She also previously served as Head of Medical Defence and Services at Avant, giving her a unique mix of in-house and private practice experience.

Marie-Clare Elder, Sparke Helmore’s Health Group Leader, said Pennington brings a “wealth of experience to our market-leading health team, deepening our local and national coverage and reinforcing our commitment to the broader health sector both in Australia and internationally.”

The move follows Sparke Helmore bolstering its corporate and commercial team in Melbourne with the addition of partner Stephen Putnins in June.
