The Brief:

  • Macpherson Kelley goes firmwide with Harvey. Brightstone Legal goes firmwide with Legora.

  • The Aussie legal AI race continues, with both platforms trying to capture every corner of the market.

Another week, another two firms betting big on legal AI.

Macpherson Kelley has gone all in on Harvey. Brightstone Legal has gone all in on Legora.

Macpherson Kelley, the 121-year-old commercial firm, is rolling Harvey out to every lawyer across all eight practice groups. It’s the payoff from a year-long pilot pitting Harvey against the rest of the market.

“We spent a year evaluating Harvey with our lawyers and testing it against the alternatives before making the decision to go firmwide,” said Grant Guenther, National Managing Principal. “What stood out was not only the strength of the platform, but the partnership behind it.”

Harvey’s Customer Success and Legal Engineering teams were embedded onsite throughout, building workflows specific to the firm’s practices.

Over at Brightstone Legal, it’s Legora’s turn. The firm has flicked the switch across its Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra offices, following a two-month pilot that ran across litigation, criminal, family, property, commercial, tax and migration work.

Brightstone is a first-generation Australian-Chinese firm based at Martin Place. Its lawyers work daily across two languages and three Australian jurisdictions, handling matters that sit between the Australian and Chinese markets.

Heather Paterson, VP of Legora APJ: “Brightstone has the talent to compete at the highest level. Now, Legora gives its lawyers the capacity to deliver against firms many times their size. They’re a practice that runs in two languages, across multiple jurisdictions and two legal systems. All of that work now runs through one platform.”

The Aussie legal AI race isn’t slowing down, and both platforms are still racking up wins in the mid-market.
