The Brief:

  • Clayton Utz’s Fred Prickett exits after nearly three decades to join Ashurst.

  • The veteran litigator’s client list spans Myer, Blackstone, and ASIC.

After 29 years with Clayton Utz, top litigator Fred Prickett has called time, joining Ashurst’s disputes team in Melbourne.

Prickett joined the firm in 1996 and quickly rose to partner in 2004.

He’s since become one of Australia’s most prominent commercial and corporate litigators.

He acted for Myer in defending Australia’s first shareholder class action, a case that’s widely reported to be “as landmark as it gets”.

His matter list also includes representing Blackstone on the litigation aspects of its $8.9bn Crown Resorts acquisition, Tatts in its $500m+ dispute with Victoria, and Money3 in proceedings brought by ASIC.

He’s also advised on high-stakes matters for Toyota, RACV and Investec, cementing his reputation as a go-to for complex, high-value disputes.

His move to Ashurst adds further depth to the firm’s national disputes practice amid a wave of senior partner movements across the top end of town.
