The Brief:

  • Seyfarth Shaw has hired Nicholas Turner from DLA Piper, where he led the Australian employment practice.

  • Turner brings more than 20 years of experience across Australia, Asia and Europe.

Turner built DLA Piper’s Australian employment practice from scratch in under a decade. Before that, he was head of employment (London) at Sidley Austin and head of employment (Asia) at Linklaters. That makes him one of the few employment lawyers in the market with serious runs on the board across three jurisdictions.

His practice spans senior executive matters, remuneration and incentive structures, complex disputes, enterprise bargaining and large-scale workforce transformations, including cross-border investigations and multi-jurisdictional mandates.

Darren Perry, chair of Seyfarth’s international employment law department and managing partner of the Sydney and Melbourne offices, said Turner's hire was about deepening the firm’s cross-border connectivity.

“Nicholas, with his extensive background, will fulfil a valuable role with his ability to further connect our Australia practice with the cross-border work done by our partners in the United States, London and Hong Kong,” Perry said.

Turner said he’s energised by what’s ahead.

“Seyfarth’s strong and stable brand platform will enable me to advance my practice to the next level,” he said.

The hire comes as demand for cross-border employment advice accelerates, with multinationals increasingly leaning on Australian counsel to navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional workforce issues.
