There were 94 applicants – 13 men and 8 women selected
Victorian Bar President Justin Hannebery KC has welcomed the appointment of 21 new Senior Counsel, announced by Chief Justice Richard Niall of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
The fresh senior counsels were drawn from across the state’s top chambers.
The breakdown
The 2025 cohort was selected from 94 applicants – 65 men and 29 women. 20% of male applicants and 28% of female applicants were successful, with 8 women and 13 men made up to the senior position.

In a statement, Hannebery congratulated the new appointees, describing silk as a “significant recognition of exceptional skill and standing within the profession.”
The ceremonial sitting to welcome the new silks will be held on Monday, 24 November 2025 in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
