The Brief:

  • Harvey has hired MinterEllison Chief Digital and AI Officer Gary Adler as a Legal Innovation Partner.

  • Based in Melbourne, he’ll lead Harvey’s legal innovation function across APAC.

Harvey is turning to Big Law’s own ranks in its bid to win over Big Law.

The legal AI platform has lured Gary Adler, MinterEllison’s Chief Digital and AI Officer, to join as a Legal Innovation Partner in Melbourne.

It’s a pointed hire. Minters backed Harvey rival Legora last year, while Mallesons, ABL and G+T lined up behind Harvey.

Adler will lead Harvey’s legal innovation function across APAC, advising the legal community on AI transformation while helping shape the platform’s product roadmap and strategy.

He brings 24 years’ experience in the legal industry, including more than 11 years at Minters. He spent close to nine years as Chief Digital and AI Officer, leading the firm’s digital roadmap with accountability for IT, cyber risk, AI and automation, data governance, legal operations, knowledge management, and innovation. Before that, he was the firm’s Chief Information Officer.

At Harvey, he’ll advise CIOs, GCs, law firm partners and Chief AI Officers on practical AI strategy, from governance and rollouts through to measuring success and supporting lasting adoption.

❝

After 24 years on the buyer’s side, I know what it takes for legal AI to make a real impact. Harvey’s investment in the strategy and change needed to make AI successful is what drew me here. The legal profession is moving beyond AI experimentation to reinventing how legal work gets done, and I wanted to help shape that transition.

His exit comes just months after Minters went outside the law to hire Domain’s Pooyan Asgari as its first Chief AI Officer, who was brought in to work alongside Adler on the firm’s AI strategy.
