The Brief:

  • Gilbert + Tobin hires long-time King & Wood Mallesons partner Brian Murphy into its corporate advisory group

  • The move boosts G+T’s M&A muscle across real assets, infrastructure and capital markets

As predicted, Gilbert + Tobin has snapped up seasoned dealmaker Brian Murphy, appointing him as a partner in its Corporate Advisory group in Sydney.

Murphy spent more than 30 years at KWM, including 24 as a partner, advising on complex M&A and capital transactions across real estate, infrastructure, agriculture and financial services.

His deal sheet includes a string of Australian firsts, from the first stapled group IPO to the first ASX-listed trust buyback, alongside major investment platforms for Stockland, Scentre Group, LOGOS and AMP Capital.

G+T co-founder and chair Danny Gilbert said: “Brian has played a leading role in shaping landmark real estate and agriculture deals, both in Australia and for international investors.”

The hire continues G+T’s run of senior appointments as it builds depth across corporate and disputes.
