The Brief:
Hall & Wilcox has landed corporate partners Carl Hinze and Khilen Devani and their team from K&L Gates.
It’s the latest in a string of team hires as H&W stays in expansion mode.
Hall & Wilcox has made a major play in Queensland, raiding K&L Gates for a five-lawyer corporate team led by partners Carl Hinze and Khilen Devani.
Joining them are senior associate Leisa Nolan, associate Mitchell Riggs and lawyer Eboni Sydes, taking H&W’s Brisbane office to over 130 people.
Hinze and Devani lead an established mid-market corporate practice spanning domestic and cross-border M&A, ECM, JVs, corporate advisory and governance, foreign investment regulation and international commercial arbitration.
They advise Australian and international clients across renewable energy, technology, healthcare, mining and resources, and professional services.
Hinze also brings significant Asia-Pacific experience, Mandarin language capability and longstanding networks across Australia and Asia, a key plank in H&W’s push to strengthen its cross-border and Asia-facing capability.
Carl and Khilen have built a high-quality practice with strong client and referrer relationships, and their experience is highly complementary to the work we already do across the firm.
Hinze said the team is joining at a pivotal moment for independent Australian firms. And Hall & Wilcox is one of those independents in full expansion mode. This move is the latest in a string of team hires, following its swoop on Piper Alderman for three corporate partners in July, and the arrival of property and disputes partner James Forde and his team in June.
The team started on 12 October and is based in Brisbane.
